Blog Thoughts 01 // Life + longevity of a career in art + music

BLOG THOUGHTS 01

Blog thoughts are short, inspiring thoughts that I find are blog worthy. They come when they come.

This one’s about the life and longevity of a career in art + music:

The thing that really attracts me to art and music is that if you have it in you, it’s truly a life long endeavour. There’s always the young bucks who leave their biggest impact at a young age. There are also artists who find their biggest success later in life.

I’m 34 at the time of writing this- and I got into electronic music just 5 years ago. Even though I’m approaching middle age, I feel like a baby with so much to learn about EDM; even just techno alone. There are so many open and friendly communities + resources to learn from, down to any specific thing.

For example, I just found out that an artist I really like, Temudo Hayes, (shown below) offers a masterclass, specifically on techno music production and performance which is exactly what I’m interested in.

I always try to remind myself of this inspired feeling when I’m low, or when I feel like I’m “running out of time”, or like I’m “behind in comparison to x artist”. It’s so easy to do that.

In the end though, if it’s in you, it’s in you for life - the trick is really to just keep going, day after day. Through time and experience, you will find an audience that appreciates and benefits from you and what you have to say creatively.

One last food for thought that comes directly from my own experience in music; i’ve found that being flexible is super important. For example, ten years ago when

I was a touring drummer playing in indie-folk bands, I had the “there is no other option !” mindset.

I think that’s a bit of a stubborn mindset. Now i’m an electronic music / video producer / creator, who’s dabbling with marketing and e-commerce to better understand how to sell sample packs i’m proud of online (check out https://orbitmusic.store for more on that). At 24 years of age, I could never have imaged where i’ve ended up here today and I still feel fulfilled occupying this space in music / work.

Those are my thoughts and experiences / End scene on Blog thoughts 01
